The Biden administration is urging states to use COVID-19 emergency funds if they want to extend the benefits on their own.

The White House says states have ways to get around a federal law that provides blanket immunity to gun manufacturers and dealers for gun crimes.

The program provided grants for 101,000 restaurants – significantly less than the 278,000 eligible applications submitted.

“The bottom line is this: I gave my word to support the infrastructure plan, and that’s what I intend to do,” President Joe Biden said.

After weeks of meetings but little progress, Biden halted negotiations with the Republican group during a phone call with Sen. Shelley Moore Capito.

Biden’s latest offer to pay for infrastructure would seek to end tax loopholes for corporations but not raise the corporate tax rate.

The setback raises major doubts over Biden’s goal to pass a sweeping infrastructure bill with support from Republicans.
